about us
Our Mission
To advance land degradation neutrality by restoring ecosystems, strengthening local livelihoods, and building climate-resilient communities through scalable restoration models.
Our Strategic Goal
Plus One Tree Initiative aims to become a leading youth and community-driven landscape restoration organization contributing to global climate mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation efforts.
Our strategic objective is to advance nature-based solutions that address land degradation, ecosystem loss, and climate vulnerability in marginalized landscapes in Kenya and across Africa.
We implement restoration models aligned with Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) and global climate action frameworks by promoting ecosystem rehabilitation, sustainable land management, and regenerative livelihood systems.
Through community-centered ecological restoration, we seek to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable populations by improving soil health, restoring degraded ecosystems, and enhancing food and income security.
Our flagship intervention is the development of a model restoration nursery and botanical garden hub with the capacity to produce 100,000 high-quality indigenous, fruit, and climate-resilient tree seedlings annually to support large-scale landscape restoration.
The initiative integrates youth and women participation in climate action by promoting green employment, environmental stewardship, and knowledge transfer on sustainable agroforestry and biodiversity conservation.
By leveraging community partnerships, scientific restoration approaches, and data-informed landscape management, Plus One Tree Initiative contributes to long-term ecosystem recovery, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development outcomes.
Ultimately, we seek to support a just and climate-resilient future where restored ecosystems sustain livelihoods, protect biodiversity, and strengthen community prosperity.
Our Restoration Journey
“I love nature, and so Hope is a design inspired by nature.”
Plus One Tree Initiative was founded by Bennittes Kipyegon, a land restoration practitioner and environmental advocate driven by a deep commitment to healing degraded landscapes and restoring dignity to communities affected by climate change.
Growing up in regions increasingly impacted by land degradation, soil erosion, and shifting cultivation, Bennittes witnessed firsthand how environmental decline directly threatens food security, livelihoods, and future opportunities. What began as a simple commitment to plant one more tree grew into a bold vision: restoring ecosystems while transforming lives.
From grassroots tree-planting efforts to structured landscape restoration in the Lake Baringo Basin and Kapkirwok, Plus One Tree Initiative has evolved into a community-led ecological restoration movement. Today, it stands as a growing platform for climate resilience, youth empowerment, sustainable agroforestry, and biodiversity conservation.
Our work is rooted in one belief: restoring land restores hope.
