LAND RESTORATION IN LAKE BARINGO BASIN

we all love

nature

In restoring degraded land, we reconnect with the essence of nature its resilience and harmony. When we heal the land, we gain insights into sustainable living, ensuring a thriving future for both people and the planet.

Mentorship and Land Restoration at Lelen Primary School

Our pilot school, Lelen Primary School, Baringo South Kenya, marks the beginning of the Plus One Tree Initiative’s School Outreach Programme. This initiative is designed to educate, inspire, and empower young minds to actively participate in environmental restoration and conservation.

At Lelen, we planted a carefully chosen mix of indigenous and fruit tree seedlings, selected in partnership with the Kenya Forest Research Institute (KEFRI) to thrive in the region’s arid conditions. The inclusion of fruit trees not only aids restoration but also provides a sustainable source of nutrition for the community.

In collaboration with Seed Balls Kenya, we introduced students to the innovative method of seed ball scattering. These nutrient-coated seed balls, ideal for degraded and dry areas, offer an efficient and impactful solution for land restoration.

By engaging students and local leaders, Lelen Primary School sets the stage for fostering environmental responsibility and creating a model for future school-based conservation efforts. Together, we’re nurturing both the land and the next generation of environmental stewards.
